DIRECT CARE WORKERS DURING COVID-19

LTSS Center researchers Natasha Bryant, Verena Cimarolli, and Robyn Stone will share findings from a study on the “Experience of Direct Care Workers during COVID-19” during Session 35-I on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 1-1:30 p.m. Jon Golm, president of WeCare Connect, will join the panel.

Aging services providers are currently facing an unprecedented crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic. Older adults are at high risk for becoming infected by and dying from COVID-19. Aging services employees who provide hands-on care to elders are also facing their own physical and emotional challenges during the pandemic.

Using data from a multi-site employee engagement and management system, this session will explore the specific challenges and level of stress frontline workers are experiencing during the pandemic, their perceived preparedness, and the quality of employer communication around COVID-19. Insights from this study will help aging services providers plan their responses to the current crisis, to future pandemics, and to other public health-related crises.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING PLUS SERVICES STRATEGIES

LTSS Center researchers Alisha Sanders and Robyn Stone will present findings from a new evaluation of the association between Medicare service use and onsite services in affordable senior housing communities. Session 39-J, “Affordable Housing Plus Services Strategies,” takes place Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. Linda Coleman,  vice president of resident services at HumanGood, will join the panel.

Attendees will learn how a housing provider collaborated with a managed care organization to bring onsite supports to residents. Panelists will review early lessons from studies of initiatives designed to facilitate enhanced service coordination in affordable senior housing communities.

DEVELOPING FUTURE AGING SERVICES LEADERS

LTSS Center team member Christy Kramer will lead a session called “Developing Future Aging Services Leaders Today” on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 1-1:30 p.m.

During the session, participants will hear about the LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Internship program and how aging services providers can develop internship programs that successfully prepare people of color for future management roles in aging services.
