Meet Marc Cohen: Researcher and LTSS Center Co-Director

By Lisa Watts

The LTSS Center’s Co-Director arrived at the University of Massachusetts Boston six years ago after a successful career in private industry.

Marc Cohen worked for decades in private industry as a co-founder of LifePlans, Inc., a company focused on long-term care financing and risk management. But he always had a group of researchers working alongside him.

“I see knowledge generation as critical to expanding opportunities and reform efforts,” he said recently. “And I saw publishing research as a part of good corporate citizenship.”

Six years ago, Cohen moved to academia, becoming co-director of the LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston. Cohen works in the LTSS Center’s Boston office, which is part of the Gerontology Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston. The LTSS Center’s Washington, DC, office is based at LeadingAge.

The LTSS Center’s mission to conduct applied research fits Cohen’s interests and experience perfectly.

“My entire research career has been in applied research, always with the aim of influencing policy and practice,” he says.
